Static electricity is generated by two non-metallic surfaces rubbing together.

The biggest single cause of ‘static’ is a dry atmosphere. This is more apparent in offices where there is little outside ventilation and a high ambient temperature inside. During the cooler months, the indoor atmosphere is particularly dry due to operational heating systems and closed windows.
