CONSIDERING A WIPER
 

Wipers are used for cleaning large surface areas containing “critical” equipment. They offer advantages in solvent retention and solvent resistance. In choosing the best wiper for a particular application, we need to consider such factors as cleanliness, abrasion resistance, solvent compatibility and absorbency.


Cleanliness is determined by 1) particle count, which measures the size distribution of extractable particles in a wiper; 2) cleanroom grade, which must be low in extractable non-volatile organic residues. The amount of such residues is determined by extracting the residues from the wiper using ultra-pure Di water, ultra-pure IPA or the solvent being used in the particular cleaning application. 3) the wiper is analysed for the amount of extractable ionic contaminants present, such as salts and minerals. Ionic salt contamination is of concern in the manufacture of critical electronic assemblies.


Abrasion resistance: should be considered as wipers will produce particles depending on the amount of abrasion they receive in use. “Cut-edge” wipers will greatly reduce the particle burden.


Solvent compatibility: keep the cleaning application in mind in choosing your wiper. The wiper must be able to absorb a given solvent and retain the solvent within the fabric of the wiper for a sufficient amount of time without premature release of the solvent.


Absorbency: is critical in wiping applications where softness and non-abrasiveness are essential. Absorbond® contains no surfactants, its absorptive capacity is five times its weight, its density of fibre structure allows for the sorption of liquids through a capillary action that gives a great benefit, particularly cleaning and absorbing oil and grease.

Applications:
  • Superior for spill control and general wiping in ISO Class 5 & 6 environments such as integrated circuit fabrication facilities
  • Cleaning and polishing the interior of stainless steel tubing
TX3217 Sterile TechniSat®

Nonwoven polyester/cellulose wipers pre-wetted with 70% IPA and sterilized. ISO Class 3-7.


Benefits:
  • Optimizes solution usage and reduces spill potential
  • Effective for one-step cleaning of a relatively clean surface. Eliminates problems associated with filtration, sterilization and mixing of alcohol and DI water
  • Packaging permits alcohol wipe down of exterior bag before introduction into sterile suites
  • Offers low levels of solvent extractables and particle generation
  • Excellent for the final rinsing and residue removal step of many critical cleaning protocols.

TX1065 CleanPaks®

Nonwoven polyester/cellulose wipers are pre-wetted with IPA and DI water. Resealable package is easier to use. ISO Class 3-7.

  • Offers portion and volatile organic compound control with optimally wetted wipers
  • Delivers premeasured amounts of high-purity alcohol to the surface
